The Government of the Philippines has carried out the evacuation of over 100,000 residents from eastern and northern regions as Super Typhoon Fung-wong intensified on Sunday, November 9, 2025. Authorities have warned of imminent torrential rainfall, powerful winds, and storm surges associated with the approaching storm, which is expected to make landfall later in the day.

Signal No. 5, the highest level of storm warning, has been raised over southeastern Luzon, including the provinces of Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, and Camarines Sur, while Metro Manila and surrounding areas have been placed under Signal No. 3. The Philippine national weather agency, PAGASA, reports that Super Typhoon Fung-wong, locally called Uwan, is carrying maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (115 mph) and gusts up to 230 kilometers per hour. The cyclone is forecast to make landfall in Aurora province, central Luzon, by Sunday night at the earliest.

Widespread power outages have already affected parts of Eastern Visayas. Evacuation efforts have included the Philippine Coast Guard, who assisted residents in Camarines Sur as they moved from slender boats to trucks, carrying their belongings during pre-emptive evacuations. The Civil Aviation Authority has confirmed that more than 300 domestic and international flights have been cancelled due to the storm.
Meanwhile, in the coastal fishing community of Vung Cheo in central Vietnam, severe damage was reported on Saturday, where dozens of fishing vessels were wrecked and hundreds of lobster farms were either destroyed or washed away by recent typhoon activity.
