A delegation of Gaon Burahs and Gaon Buris from Ziro in the Lower Subansiri district met Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. General K.T. Parnaik (Retd.), PVSM, UYSM, YSM, at the Raj Bhavan on Thursday. During the meeting, the Governor encouraged the village heads to take an active role in driving social progress, sustainable farming, and rural development in their communities.
Addressing the delegation, Governor Parnaik described the Gaon Burahs and Buris as “the torchbearers of change and the first guardians of people’s welfare.” He emphasized that the true foundation of development lies in the villages, where dedicated local leaders transform vision into action. Linking grassroots efforts to the national goal of Viksit Bharat@2047, he urged the GBs to champion initiatives that ensure the well-being and prosperity of their communities.
The Governor also highlighted the importance of cleanliness under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, reminding the delegation that maintaining hygiene is a shared responsibility. “Clean surroundings mean fewer diseases, healthier families, and stronger communities,” he said, calling on the GBs to promote proper waste management at the household level.
Applauding their role in promoting adult education, Governor Parnaik stressed that education remains the strongest instrument for social transformation. He encouraged the GBs to ensure that every child, regardless of gender, completes basic schooling. “An educated child becomes an empowered citizen. When a child drops out, the community loses a part of its future,” he remarked.
Expressing concern over the growing problem of drug abuse, the Governor called it “a social poison” that threatens the future of youth. He urged the village leaders to identify at-risk young people and engage them in sports, vocational training, and other positive community activities, calling this effort “a battle for the soul of our society.”
The 23-member delegation, led by Shri Yachang Tago, Political Interpreter from Ziro, included 16 Gaon Buris and seven Gaon Burahs representing Dutta, Mudang Tage, and Bamin villages.
Following their meeting, the GBs toured the Raj Bhavan complex, where they observed various pilot projects in horticulture, animal husbandry, and agriculture initiated under the Governor’s leadership. These demonstration models, tailored to Arunachal Pradesh’s climate and traditional practices, aim to inspire farmers and youth to adopt modern, sustainable, and income-generating livelihoods.
Through the interaction, Governor Parnaik reinforced his belief that the path to a progressive and self-reliant Arunachal Pradesh begins at the village level—with informed, committed, and compassionate local leadership.
