In a significant step towards reinforcing the fight against drug abuse, the District Administration of Lower Subansiri reaffirmed its commitment during the 10th NCORD (National Coordination for Responding to Drugs) District Level Committee Meeting held at the Golden Jubilee Conference Hall in Ziro on July 10. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Smti Oli Perme.
Addressing the gathering, DC Oli Perme underscored the importance of collective responsibility in combating the drug menace, emphasizing that the war against drugs is not solely the duty of the police or administration but requires the united efforts of every stakeholder-from government agencies to community organizations.
CDPO Ziro-I Smti Takhe Rinyo Bullo has briefed the meeting minutes of the previous NCORD Meeting and also informed the gathering about the drug abuse scenario in the valley.
DySP Shri Ojing Lego has suggested for training school teachers for dissemination of drug awareness information to school children. He also suggested for providing employment opportunities to those who overcome drug abuse for bringing them into the mainstream.
SDO Shri Hage Tarung has suggested for sensitizing rent house owners regarding drug awareness as many tenants are found to be involved in drug abuse and drug peddling. He also suggested for initiating legal actions against those landlords who intentionally do not inform police regarding involvement of their tenants in drug abuse and peddling of banned substances.
Asst. General Secretar of All Lower Subansiri District Students Union Shri Taku Niting has offered to cooperate the District Administration in its fight against drugs abuse and requested the NCORD District Level Committee to involve them in drug awareness programs in educational institutions and also in surprise checkings.
Among others DAO Tasso Butung, DMO Dr. Millo Kunya, Dy. Director ICDS Dani Yami, DIPRO In-charge Tai Arun, President of AWAZ Dr. Subu T. Kampu, HODs, officials from CRPF, ITBP and representatives from APWWS have participated in the meeting.
