Ziro, April 25, 2025 – In a significant development, Ziro police have arrested three individuals involved in a cheating case amounting to Rs. 6,31,800. The case was registered on January 26, 2025, following a complaint from a local resident who alleged that he had been duped under the pretext of a government savings scheme.
According to the complaint, one of the accused, Reena Kumari, approached the victim and persuaded him to open an account under the Mahila Pradhan Kshetriya Bachat Yojana, a scheme under the Department of Small Savings. Subsequently, she and her associates, Santhosh Kumar and Dipak Kumar, collected daily deposits from the victim, assuring him that the money was being deposited into the account. However, it was later discovered that no such deposits had been made, and the trio had misappropriated the victim’s hard-earned money.
Taking prompt action, the Investigating Officer (IO) arrested Dipak Kumar from Ziro soon after the case was registered. Meanwhile, Reena Kumari and Santhosh Kumar managed to flee the town and went into hiding. Through a combination of technical surveillance and human intelligence, the police were able to trace their location to Samastipur, Bihar.
A team led by SI K. Yigam (IO of the case), along with CTS W. Lowang, T. Dekar, and L/CTS N. Asha, under the supervision of the SDPO and SP Ziro, travelled to Bihar and successfully apprehended the two absconding accused on April 22, 2025, with the assistance of the Samastipur police.
Following their arrest, Reena Kumari and Santhosh Kumar were produced before the CJM Court in Ziro and are currently under police custody. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to recover the misappropriated funds and determine if more victims are involved in the case.
