YACHULI, 20 Feb: The Yachuli Nyokum festival kicked off with a thrilling Volleyball tournament, accompanied by a two-day free eye screening camp. In partnership with Abotani Eye Care, the camp benefited 50 patients on its first day, providing them with free eye glasses.

This initiative embodies the spirit of the Nyokum festival, a significant event in Arunachal Pradesh celebrated by the Nyishi tribe. The festival honors Mother Nature, seeking her blessings for a bountiful harvest.
This year’s celebration promises to be vibrant, showcasing traditional dances, sports, music, and customs unique to the Nyishi people of Keyi Panyor district. The incorporation of social welfare initiatives like the free eye screening camp is commendable, offering nearby villagers access to healthcare services alongside festival celebrations.

Free eye screening Initiative Led by Neelam Lel, an optometrist and eye care specialist,a free eye screening initiative was conducted under the sponsorship of the National Programme for Control of Blindness & Visual Impairment.
On the first day alone,50 patients underwent free screening tests,35 patients were identified and treated at various levels of care.
Free eye glasses were distributed to senior citizens of Keyi Panyor District, as informed by Neelam Lel.
This initiative demonstrates the commitment to providing accessible and quality eye care services to the community, particularly to vulnerable populations such as senior citizens.
