Late Tapi Tana, son of Late Tapi Tamo of HGB Hong, was a respected nonagenarian and one of the most revered priests (Nyibu) of the Apatani Plateau. Known as the oldest priest of Hong, he was admired across all sections of society for his deep spiritual wisdom and profound understanding of Apatani traditions. A living repository of age-old knowledge and customary practices, Late Tana played a vital role in shaping the values and cultural fabric of modern Apatani society.
Serving as a Nyibu for over four decades, his guidance and teachings made him a central and unifying figure in the community. His passing marks not only a personal loss but also the closing of a remarkable chapter in Apatani history—truly, an “end of an era.”
He is survived by his wife, four sons, two daughters, and numerous grandchildren. The sudden demise of Late Tana has left a deep void in the Apatani community, especially among fellow Nyibus—a loss that will be hard to fill for years to come.
