Shri Vivek H.P, Deputy Commissioner of Lower SubansiriDistrict on Friday convened an urgent meeting with DDMO, Administrative Officers, Police and other concerned department heads to review the district’s readiness for the upcoming South-West Monsoon.

In the meeting, he reviewed the status of drainage system inboth urban and rural areas of the district. While directing thePWD & UD & Housing to clear silts and garbage from drainsto prevent waterlogging & urban flooding during monsoon,Deputy Commissioner Vivek H.P cited examples of coastal cities like Goa & Thiruvananthapuram where despite heavy rainfalls, they do not suffer from such problems because of their efficient and sustainable drainage systems. Further hedirected the Department of UD & Housing to immediately demolish illegal structures and toilets built at the banks of Kley river and other streams in the Ziro Valley and give him a compliance report.
The Department of Forest and Power were directed to clear tall trees around high tension wires to prevent falling of trees on wires disrupting power supply during heavy rainfall and storm. Deputy Commissioner Vivek H.P also directed the Department of PH&E to be prepared for monsoon for ensuring continuous supply of potable water to public. He also directed the Department of WRD to check the rise of water level and give weekly report to the DDMO for timely intervention. The DIPRO of Lower Subansiri District has been directed to circulate important contact numbers of District Disaster Control Room (1077), Police & Fire (112), Women Helpline (181) and Child Helpline (1098) etc. forprompt response during any emergency situations.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the district administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the public through robust disaster preparedness and response mechanism.
