Ziro, July 1: In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing fight against narcotics under Operation Dawn 2.0, the Ziro Police on June 30 arrested two alleged drug peddlers and seized 42.94 grams of suspected heroin.
Acting on a credible tip-off that one Biju Borgohain was transporting a consignment of heroin from Naharlagun in a silky silver Maruti WagonR, a police team swiftly set up a surprise nakka checking at the Kardo Police Check Gate in Hapoli. The operation was conducted under the leadership of SP Keni Bagra, with direct supervision from SDPO O. Lego. The core team included Inspector M. Lalyang, SI K. Yigam, ASI P. Nobin, HC T. Tale, Ct. J. Jangoi, and L/Ct. P. Yaja.
At approximately 9:10 PM, the vehicle in question approached the check gate but sped away when signalled to stop. The police team immediately initiated a high-speed chase and successfully intercepted the vehicle near Tribal Gym, Hapoli.
Upon inspection, the team discovered two individuals inside the car — Biju Borgohain (40) and Hage Tachang (35). A thorough search led to the recovery of 33 plastic vials containing a total of 42.94 grams of suspected heroin.
All search and seizure procedures were carried out in accordance with legal protocols, in the presence of Executive Magistrate Hage Tarung, SDO Old Ziro, and independent witnesses.
A case has been registered at Ziro Police Station (Case No. 40/2025) under sections 21(b)/27A of the NDPS Act. The case has been endorsed to SI J. Doye for further investigation.
The Ziro Police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining pressure on drug networks and appealed to the public to continue supporting efforts by sharing information related to drug trafficking in the area.
