Mumbai, April 12: Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle passed away on Sunday at the age of 92 in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. She was reportedly suffering from cardiac and respiratory complications that led to multi-organ failure.
Asha Bhosle was one of India’s most celebrated voices, with a remarkable career spanning more than seven decades. She recorded over 11,000 songs in multiple Indian and foreign languages, becoming one of the most prolific singers in music history.
Born on September 8, 1933, in Sangli, Maharashtra, Asha began singing at a young age and rose to fame with timeless songs in Hindi cinema. Her collaborations with composers O. P. Nayyar and R. D. Burman created some of Bollywood’s most iconic melodies.
She won several prestigious honours during her lifetime, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Padma Vibhushan. Her songs such as Dil Cheez Kya Hai, Piya Tu Ab To Aaja, and Mera Kuch Saamaan remain beloved across generations.
Her final rites will be performed with full state honours at Shivaji Park on April 13.
With her passing, India has lost one of its greatest musical legends, but her voice and legacy will live on forever.
