Narang Napa, hailing from the serene village of Hong in Lower Subansiri, Arunachal Pradesh, has carved a unique path—one that led him from football fields to MMA cages. His journey is not just about switching sports; it is a story of resilience, transformation, and the relentless pursuit of strength.
At the age of 19, Narang began his sporting career as a footballer. However, persistent bullying became a turning point in his life. What initially began as a quest for self-defense evolved into a deeper passion for combat sports, ultimately changing the course of his life.
Narang’s foray into Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) started at MMA Ziro, where he trained under the experienced guidance of coaches Nenker Tatung and Tamo Taller. With discipline and dedication, he spent two formative years sharpening his skills. His hard work paid off when he earned a National Bronze Medal in MMA, competing in Odisha. His achievements extended further with multiple gold medals in tournaments such as Club Wars at Bidang MMA & Fitness Gym, Guwahati, and Aturto, held in both Ziro and Itanagar.

Driven to broaden his skillset, Narang later shifted his focus to boxing. He began training at the Lower Subansiri Boxing Club and continued to make his mark in the combat sports scene. Under the mentorship of Gyati Tath and Pyagang Tabyo, he secured a State Bronze Medal and proudly represented Arunachal Pradesh in the prestigious 68th School Games held in New Delhi.
However, his journey has not been without its share of hardships. Financial limitations posed significant challenges in terms of training expenses, travel costs, and essential gear. Despite these obstacles, Narang remained undeterred. His perseverance, combined with his unwavering belief in himself, allowed him to rise above the difficulties.
In the early stages, even his family was hesitant to support his unconventional path. But over time, as his efforts began bearing fruit, their perspective changed. Today, they stand proudly beside him, a testament to the power of persistence and belief.
From a young footballer who once felt powerless against bullying to a trained fighter stepping into the cage, Narang Napa’s journey is a powerful reminder that while success is never easy, it is always achievable through hard work and dedication.

Future Aspirations
Narang’s goals are as ambitious as they are inspiring:
- To compete in Matrix Fight Night (MFN) — India’s leading MMA promotion.
- To fight in ONE Championship — Asia’s premier martial arts stage.
- And ultimately, to step into the UFC octagon — the global pinnacle of MMA.
Beyond his personal ambitions, Narang also advocates for greater support of combat sports such as MMA, boxing, and taekwondo. He believes these sports offer more than physical strength — they foster discipline, confidence, and character. He encourages society to recognize and invest in these fields, as they have the power to transform lives, just as they transformed his own.
His story stands as an inspiration to young athletes across India — especially those from remote regions — proving that with courage, dedication, and the will to rise, no dream is out of reach.
