Ziro, April 30: In a significant development in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking, Ziro police arrested one alleged drug peddler and seized 23.5 grams of suspected heroin. Acting on credible information received around 4:00 PM, the police were alerted about an unidentified individual transporting contraband substances from Assam to Ziro. Under the close supervision of SP Keni Bagra, a special team was swiftly constituted comprising Inspector S. Roy, SIs K. Yigam and J. Yomcha, ASI C. Tallo, and Constable N.P. Suyang, under the overall supervision of SDPO O. Lego.
The team immediately initiated rigorous naka checking operations at the Kardo area. During the operation, a motorcycle rider attempted to evade the police, raising suspicion. The team gave chase and successfully intercepted the vehicle. Upon verification, the rider was identified as Tage Takung, 28, a resident of Lempia village.
A body search conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate led to the recovery of 18 vials containing suspected heroin, weighing a total of 23.5 grams. The substances were seized in accordance with all legal procedures.
Subsequently, a case has been registered at Ziro Police Station under ZPS Case No. 28/2025, invoking sections 21(a)/27(a) of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is currently underway to trace the source and potential network linked to the accused.
