Hapoli, July 16: In a continued effort to combat drug trafficking in Lower Subansiri district, police on Tuesday morning detained an alleged female drug peddler identified as Kago Yapyang (26), wife of Nali Namet. She was taken into custody around 9:00 AM from a rented room near Pai Gate, Hapoli, following a tip-off that reached the police at approximately 7:00 AM.
Responding promptly to the information, a team of officers led by Officer-in-Charge Millo Lalyang, along with SDO Rani Perme, who served as the magistrate on the spot, conducted a search operation at the premises. The operation also included SI J. Yomcha, ASI C. Tado, Lady Head Constable Kago Oddi, and Constables J. Jangoi, D. Gyadi, and S. Wangjo. Two executive members of the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS), Ziro Unit, were also present during the raid.
During the search, officials reportedly seized 45 vials containing a substance suspected to be heroin, along with 5 empty vials. The total weight of the suspected drugs was recorded at 61.0 grams. This incident has further raised concerns about repeated drug-related activities in the area.
According to police records, this is not the first time Yapyang has come under suspicion for such offences. She and her husband were previously caught last year for a similar case, in which she found with 10 grams of heroin. She was sent to judicial custody for three months before being granted bail.
The latest case highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in tackling drug trafficking and dealing with repeat offenders. Authorities have once again urged the public to assist in the fight against drugs by reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
