Ziro, May 5: In a significant breakthrough under Operation Dawn 2.0, the Ziro Police have arrested four individuals involved in drug peddling and seized a total of 51.2 grams of suspected heroin in two separate operations carried out on May 3 and 4. The operations were conducted under the leadership of Superintendent of Police (SP) K. Bagra, reaffirming the police department’s firm stand against the rising drug menace in Lower Subansiri district.
The first operation was initiated on May 3, following credible input received at around 8:00 PM about two individuals—Shri Takhe Tabyo and Hage Puyang—allegedly in possession of contraband substances and actively peddling drugs. A team led by Sub-Inspector J. Doye and comprising Inspector M. Lalyang, ASI P. Novin, Constable T. Param, and Lady Constable T. Hinju was formed under the supervision of SDPO Ziro.
With the help of technical surveillance provided by PHQ, the accused were located at an apartment in Hill Top, Hapoli. Upon arrival, the police found both suspects inside and conducted a thorough search of the premises. The search resulted in the recovery of 11 plastic vials containing suspected heroin weighing 14.9 grams, 49 empty vials, and 12 used syringes. Both individuals were arrested on the spot following all legal formalities.
During interrogation, the accused disclosed that they had procured the drugs from a supplier in Itanagar—Miss Yumlam Maynig alias Anisha—who was scheduled to deliver more supplies in Ziro the following day.
Acting on this intel, the police conducted an intense nakka checking at the Kardo Check Gate on May 4, where they successfully apprehended Yumlam Maynig. She was found in possession of 22 plastic vials containing suspected heroin, weighing 29.6 grams.
In a separate operation on the same day, police arrested Miss Kabak Yana, who had long been under police surveillance for suspected involvement in drug activities. She was caught during a routine inner line permit (ILP) check at Kardo Check Gate and found in possession of 5 plastic vials of suspected heroin, weighing 6.7 grams.
Two separate cases have been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is currently underway.
The arrests mark a major step in the district’s ongoing fight against drug trafficking. The police have urged the public to cooperate by reporting any suspicious activity and reminded residents that such actions are vital to safeguarding the future of the community, especially the youth.
