X is adding video capability to Spaces that will work like Google Meet, Zoom

Elon Musk has announced that X (formerly Twitter) will be getting another feature – video to its live audio conversation feature Spaces – that will essentially bring conversations on the platform similar to those on Google Meet, Zoom and other video conferencing apps.

Musk announced the feature during a Spaces session hosted by Mario Nawfal, and the session also included Andrew Tate, Vivek Ramaswamy and Alex Jones whose X account was reinstated following a user poll over the weekend.

How will it work, availability
Musk said the company plans to launch the feature by the end of the year and if not it will come but “certainly by early next year.”

“From a feature standpoint, we are working on adding video to Spaces. It’ll just be a simple thing where you can turn the video on or off,” Musk said, adding that if there are more than one speaker with video feed on, the video feed will automatically highlight the person who is currently speaking.

This nifty feature is already available in various video conferencing applications.

“It’s helpful to see people’s body language as they speak… It conveys more information if you can see their face and their body language if they wish to,” Musk said. This feature provides the company another way to engage on the platform.

Video, audio calls on X
It must be noted that earlier this year, X launched the audio/video calling feature, which is similar to the live video streaming offerings from other platforms, like Facebook Live and Instagram Live.

The feature was made available to those who have subscribed to X Premium. Subscribers can call anyone on X as long as the person has sent a direct message at least once before. Notably, those who do not have a subscription can receive calls.
