WhatsApp rolls out new chat filter feature, here’s what it means for users

WhatsApp has started rolling out a new feature which will help in improving the user experience on Desktop. The Meta-owned app has rolled out a new chat filter feature which is designed to help users categorise their conversations by choosing the filter that better suits their needs.

As reported by WABetaInfo, the instant messaging app has released a feature which will enable the users to categorise their conversations by selecting a filter of their choice. The feature is presently available only for some beta testers and will be soon rolled out for everyone.

The report notes the addition of a new row at the top of the chat list screen, introducing essential filters for users to categorise their conversations. It is important to highlight that this feature is presently accessible to certain users who had earlier enrolled in the official beta program for the web client, granting them access to exclusive features.

What are the new filters

This functionality introduces users to additional filters aimed at streamlining the management and organization of their conversations on WhatsApp Web. Positioned at the top of the chat list screen, the new row incorporates essential filters like "Unread," "Contacts," and "Groups," enabling users to efficiently access specific chat categories. For example, the "Unread" filter exclusively displays conversations with unread messages, facilitating a quicker catch-up on important information. The "Contacts" filter allows users to retrieve messages specifically from phone numbers saved in their address book. Furthermore, the "Groups" filter conveniently consolidates all group chats in one location, simplifying navigation and management for users involved in multiple group conversations.
