ITANAGAR, Dec 14: Former MLA and State Working President of the National People’s Party (NPP), Likha Saaya has tendered his resignation from the primary and active membership of the party.
Saaya, who joined the NPP six months back, in his resignation letter submitted to the national president of the NPP, Conrad K. Sangma, recently, expressed that he resigned from the party as he was not appointed as the president of the State unit of the party as committed by the party.
“Approximately six months back with an understanding to lead the party as the State president of Arunachal Pradesh, I had joined the National People’s Party. Due to technical reasons, I was appointed as the working president of NPP Arunachal Pradesh with a commitment to make me the State president. However, many months have passed and the commitment to make me lead the NPP as the president, Arunachal Pradesh, has not yet been finalized,” Saaya wrote in his resignation letter.
Saaya also wrote that he waited for adequate time for the party high command to take the appropriate decision but “no positive decision” with regard to his appointment as State president of NPP was not yet finalized.
He said as the Assembly election in Arunachal Pradesh is drawing near, he has “lost enough time” and has been stuck politically in a confusion without clarity for too long.
“Under these circumstances I am not able to work effectively to lead the NPP and make a mark by organizing to win many Assembly constituencies in the upcoming Assembly elections in April 2024 as I am not given the absolute power to run the party as the State president and organize the same as my functionality and effectiveness as a leader has been highly curtailed,” he mentioned.
He said he vision was to create a political platform at par with various national parties and win many Assembly constituencies so that the NPP can be part of the government that would be formed next after the Assembly elections, thereby having the power to be able to make policies and deliver to the people of Arunachal Pradesh .
Under the present situation, Saaya said he “will not be able to work effectively for the people of Arunachal Pradesh and do justice to them” and expressed his willingness to tender his “resignation from the primary and active membership of the party”.He also submitted his resignation from the post of the working president of National People’s Party, Arunachal Chapter.
