Manoj Singh || ITANAGAR, DEC 9 – Former Minister Kahfa Bengia, a prominent figure in the regional party PPA, has appealed to Nirvachan Bhawan, Arunachal Pradesh, urging a thorough examination and verification of the significant influx of voters enrolled in the voter list for the 21st Koloriang ST assembly constituency before its publication.
Bengia alleges that more than 2% of voters have been included, violating guidelines set by the Election Commission of India (ECI). He emphasized the importance of proper verification during the ongoing claim and objection period to avoid potential law and order issues during the 2024 elections.
Expressing concern over the inclusion of a large number of voters, Bengia stated that this influx could lead to problems if not addressed promptly. He has submitted an application to the Chief Election Officer (CEO) and called for immediate action to rectify the situation.
Bengia highlighted the need for involvement from local authorities, including Block Election Officers (BLO), AERO, ERO, and District Election Officers (DEO), to thoroughly examine and verify the voters’ list. He urged government officials, panchayat leaders, and village representatives to scrutinize the list for potential bogus voters.
The former Minister also appealed to local leaders and village representatives to verify the voters’ list in their respective areas and raise objections if they find discrepancies. He emphasized the importance of preventing any issues during the upcoming elections.
The published voters’ list for the 21st Koloriang assembly constituency in October 2023 showed 13,815 existing voters, with 1,935 new additions and 365 shifting or transfer voters. Around 60,000 application forms have been received through various channels, and the final voter list is expected to be published on January 5th, 2024.
As of October 2023, Arunachal Pradesh has a total of 856,187 electors, including 420,954 males, 435,228 females, 5 individuals identifying as the third gender, 4,576 PWD (Persons with Disabilities), 9,547 senior citizens, and 5,744 service electors. The gender ratio is reported at 1034, and the state has 2,226 polling stations, an increase from the previous election’s count of 2,220.
