Dell Technologies introduces new data and storage advancements for faster AI applications

Dell Technologies is helping customers achieve faster AI and generative AI (GenAI) performance with new enterprise data storage advancements, which are being validated with the Nvidia DGX SuperPOD AI infrastructure.

Enhanced Capabilities of PowerScale
The latest PowerScale OneFS software upgrades allow businesses to accelerate AI model development and execution. By utilising new PowerScale all-flash storage systems, customers can experience up to a 2X increase in streaming read and write performance, which optimises processes for compute-intensive applications. Smart scale-out capabilities enhance single compute node performance, bolstering GPU utilisation and increasing storage throughput for AI training, checkpointing, and inferencing.

Validation and Collaboration with NVIDIA

Dell is collaborating with NVIDIA to validate PowerScale with NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD, an AI infrastructure solution. This collaboration promises a validated blend of NVIDIA DGX systems, Dell PowerScale storage, and advanced networking technologies to deliver faster and more efficient AI storage. Notably, Dell's PowerScale is set to be the first ethernet storage solution validated on NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD, ensuring customers access to industry-leading network-attached storage for their AI initiatives.

Multi cloud Accessibility and Integration

Acknowledging the prevalence of multi-cloud strategies, Dell empowers customers with the flexibility to process data where it is most strategic—on-premises, at the edge, or in public clouds. Dell APEX File Storage for Microsoft Azure, a recent addition to the APEX Storage for Public Cloud portfolio, promises enterprise-grade file performance and management capabilities within Microsoft Azure. This offering caters to performance-intensive AI and machine learning applications like Azure OpenAI Service and Azure AI Vision.

Availability and Expansion

The roadmap for these innovations includes global availability targets for various enhancements. PowerScale's software upgrades are set for imminent release, followed by the launch of next-generation all-flash systems and smart scale-out features in the first half of 2024. Similarly, Dell's collaborative solutions with cloud providers and data management ecosystems are slated for availability in 2024, enabling customers to leverage AI capabilities seamlessly across diverse environments.

“Storage performance is a critical factor for successful AI and generative AI outcomes,” said Arthur Lewis, president, Infrastructure Solutions Group, Dell Technologies. “Customers are relying on us to continually push the boundaries of storage innovation, including removing data access bottlenecks that limit the throughput and scalability of compute-intensive applications. We are addressing these needs by delivering fast, efficient and secure"
